The Korea Cycle

The Korea Cycle is a triplet of plays, in the mold of Shakespeare’s histories, detailing the U.S.-led “democratic” experiment in and occupation of South Korea.
Play I: The People’s Committes
Set immediately following the end of the Japanese occupation of the Korean peninsula, a family in southern Korea must defend and preserve the fabric of their town and their new democratic system. But after the mysterious return of a long-lost loved one and the arrival of a strange American private, the town and its new way of life will face an existential crisis.
The People’s Committees was developed as part of Project YZ from Yangtze Rep, directed by Nana Dakin.
Play II: MacArthur
The second play in the cycle will take place during the Korean War, anchored by the ambitious (and destructive) mastermind General Douglas MacArthur.
MacArthur was originally commissioned by Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director).
